Our Impact
Karishma Saikia, Yoga & Vedic Therapist
"When I was in the 8th month of my pregnancy and the last semester of my Master’s program, my university suddenly withdrew permissions to attend classes remotely, leaving me devastated. Repeated requests to consider my case as per the UGC maternity leave norms were declined by the university.

Desperate for justice, I came across Devika’s article on maternity leave for university students in India. I reached out to Devika and through our conversations, she helped me understand my rights better which gave me confidence and clarity to exercise my rights. Accordingly, I wrote to my university and was finally granted permission to attend classes remotely.

Women and Justice helped me to start my journey of motherhood while simultaneously continuing my higher studies. I can’t thank them enough for being the guiding light to young mothers like me."
